Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group (HBAWG), is a small group of volunteers who are dedicated to helping pets out of less than perfect situations and getting them into their forever homes.

Over 7,200 dogs have found their forever homes!

We are located in Northern Indiana. Homeward Bound is a non-profit organization that does not receive state or federal funding, in-turn, we rely on fundraising and private donations.

Where is Homeward Bound Located?

We have prescheduled weekly adoption times at a local pet friendly business. We schedule approved applicants to meet the dog(s) for which they are approved. Our own building is in the works for 2023-2024.

How long does it take to adopt a dog from Homeward Bound?

We are very dedicated to placing our dogs in their forever homes as quickly as possible. All you have to do is send us an email expressing interest in a pet adoption.

What should I expect from a Homeward Bound dog?

Adding a new pet to your home can be a very rewarding experience. Especially when you know you taking a dog without a home and giving it a fresh start. All of our dogs have either been rescued, or rehomed. Please think about the fact that some of them have never been pets or lived in a home. They can be shy. Most will need house training. We recommend positive reinforcement obedience classes to all people that apply, regardless of the breed type, dog temperament, or age. If you are local to us we have some personal recommendations. Training can be a very enjoyable process for both people and animals. As a rescue, we do ask that you give the different aspects of bringing a new dog into your home some serious thought.

I want to help Homeward Bound, how do I get involved?

We are always looking for new volunteers. Even if you don't want to deal directly with dogs! We may still have an opportunity for you. Please fill out the volunteer application and just let that you want to help and we try to find a place for you!

How do I foster a dog for Homeward Bound?

We are in the process of expanding our foster program.  We do have an online foster application here. Please send us an email  to start the conversation with us about our foster program. We do have a foster contract and require a home visit, but we do cover all vet costs and provide food for our foster animals.
